De-identify HL7 v2 messages, offline
Scrub names, identifiers, addresses, phone numbers and SSNs from HL7 v2 files with consistent pseudonyms and date shifting. Runs only in the free offline Sandbox, so real data never leaves your computer.
Download the free SandboxPrivacy: De-identification is only in the downloadable Sandbox, never on the website, because it is meant for real messages. The Sandbox is plain web pages that run offline in your browser and block all network access.
What it does
- Rule-based scrub of PID, NK1, GT1, IN1 and MRG names, IDs, addresses, phones, SSN and driver's license
- The same original value always gets the same pseudonym, so patients stay linked across the file
- Dates of birth (and optionally every event date) shift by the same number of days
- Optional removal of free text in OBX-5 and NTE-3
- Save the de-identified .hl7 file and a summary CSV (original values are never written out)
Questions
Why only in the Sandbox?
Because you would use it on real data, it runs only in the offline download, which cannot send anything over the network.
Is the result guaranteed anonymous?
No tool can promise that. The rules cover the standard identifier fields; review the output and follow your organization's policy before sharing.
All tools are free. Is the Sandbox download safe?
